Hey everyone, if you are preparing for your Class 4 Unrestricted Commercial Driver's License test, you know by now that you need to do a pre-trip inspection. Some people fail this test because they don’t know how to run through a pre-trip inspection in the time that it takes in a way that makes sense and covers everything needed.
I don’t know how you are feeling right now, but I was pretty nervous about that pre-trip inspection. I really needed my Class 4 Unrestricted Commercial Driver's License for my job where I would be driving a 15 passenger van to and from schools every day, picking up and dropping off children. The Class 4 was a necessity, I only had a few weeks to get it, and I didn’t want to fail.
When I was getting ready to practice for my Class 4 and especially for my pre-trip inspection, I couldn’t find any helpful resources in one spot so I researched online and contacted a few friends who had done the test compiled their advice and learned from their experiences, both positive and negative. Then, I did my test and passed!
When I finished and passed I thought, “I really should write down how to do this so that other people have an easier time then I did!” So that’s what I did.
1. I started with a blog which I originally posted on a personal blog site. Many people have taken those written instructions and have used these to help them pass successfully. I offer this guide at no charge and you will find it here.
2. The next step I took was to put this little video "course" together. It's free and offers advice and tips to help things go smoothly for you on test day and for all the pre-trip inspections you will need to do in the future! Start with "Video 1. Introduction" on the home page.
3. In addition, I took the time to put together a terminology video because not everyone is very familiar with the parts/names that one needs to check on a vehicle in a pre-trip inspection. I also put together a timed pre-trip inspection for those who are more visual and would benefit from reading about it and seeing it in action!
